Everything you want to know about Scratchboarding

"Sleeping Ginger" black ink on scratchboard by Judy Lavoie

Come join my Scratchboard 101 Class, a 3-hour lecture on Friday, November 15, 2019, from 1-4pm. It will be held at the Chota Recreation Center in Tellico Village, 145 Awohili Dr, Loudon, TN 37774.

This is a lecture-based “how-to” beginner class to introduce scratchboards as a unique and exciting surface for artwork. Participants will go home with the knowledge and tools to start scratchboarding right away!

My presentation will focus on white “Aquabord™” and black “Scratchbord™.” Included will be examples from many paintings I’ve done on these surfaces, spanning two decades, along with a power point show covering these topics:

• why do scratchboard
• advantages of scratchboard panels
• subjects which lend themselves to scratchboard
• tools and materials
• using color: watercolor, acrylics, inks
• step-by-step instructions; tips and special techniques

Each attendee will receive a “goodie bag” of scratchboard panels and tools, along with a list of reference sources and a treasure chest of resources for scratchboarding. My popular “try it out” table will have sample boards and tools for participants to get the feel of scratchboards during breaks.

This class is for beginner or experienced artists who want to add an interesting new surface to their repertoire; all artistic ability levels are welcome. Class is limited to 30 participants.

Payment in full is required to reserve space ($15 cash or check payable to Judy Lavoie). Class fee is non-refundable unless the class is cancelled and not rescheduled.
