“…A very, very powerful piece.”

It’s showtime for me, and several of my watercolors and scratchboard paintings are currently in the spotlight.

“This is a very very powerful piece,” are the words used to describe my painting “Distress,” one of 7 award winners among 50 paintings chosen for Tennessee Watercolor Society’s 2021 Online Juried Exhibition. Juror Cathy Hillegas said my painting “...conveys emotion while still being somewhat open to interpretation.” Nearly 200 entries by the state’s best watercolor artists competed to be in this Exhibit. I created “Distress” with symbolic images, for viewers to translate into their own meaning, and I’m delighted to have it recognized in this way. Just look at the Exhibition to see the stiff competition I was up against.

I also have paintings being showcased in several regional and international exhibitions:

  • Two of my black scratchboards, “Curious” and “How Sweet It Is,” are currently featured in the 2021 Online Exhibition of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists. Once again, the art is this show is extraordinary and I am honored to be in such company.
  • My large watercolor of a single poppy flower, “Remembrance,” is among just 41 original artworks chosen from 484 entries for Arts In The Airport, displayed now through October 2021 at McGee Tyson Airport in Knoxville TN.
  • “Ruby-Throated Hummer” has been singled out from three black scratchboards I have in the Tellico Village Art Guild Spring Art Show. During a Gallery Talk, Kimberly Winkle, Director of the School of Art, Craft & Design at Tennessee Technological University, said she was drawn to this painting’s “intensity of colors which work perfectly with the subject.”
