Fame and fortune on a small scale anyway! My new scratchboard "Hillbilly" was juried into the 2023 International Society of Scratchboard Artists 12th Annual Exhibition, among the works of just 41 scratchboard artists from around the world. This is a very prestigeous show with extraordinary artwork (see the Exhibition Catalog online) so I am very honored to be included again this year. But wait, there's more... Hillbilly received an award as well. It is called the "4:02 Award" in memory of Canadian scratchboard artist Norma Paul who died recently. The name of the award is a bit odd, so I inquired with the show chairperson what it meant. She explained that Norma used to say she liked to toast each day at 4:02pm. Works for me!
But wait, there's more. Hillbilly has also sold from the show, so I am doubly rewarded. It is always a compliment when a stranger loves your artwork so much that they want it for themselves.
The exhibition continues at Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, AZ, through December 10, 2023. You can read about my steps creating Hillbilly in a recent blog post and in a slide show I posted on my Instagram page.
