Watson

"This is a portrait of my rescued dog, Watson. He joined our family in 2015, when he was estimated by the local animal shelter to be just under 1 year old. His fur is very light, so the challenge in depicting it with paint is to use highlights and shadows, within a close range of values. As usual, I focused on his intense eyes, which naturally help to draw the viewer into the painting. Watson's portrait now hangs in my own pet gallery at home, among those of his siblings, including our many beloved fur babies who have departed."
