I’m celebrating a new milestone with my fine art today. I’ve just learned that one of my paintings has been accepted into Splash 21! What is that, you wonder? Outside the world of watercolor, the “Splash Best of Watercolor” book series is probably not well known. But as a watercolor artist, being included in this publication is a major recognition. The Splash series are coffee-table books with stunning reproductions of watercolor paintings. In the words of publisher North Light, which specializes in art books and magazines: “Over the past 20+ years, Splash has built a reputation as the premier showcase of contemporary watercolor… a gathering place for the best work and freshest ideas from today’s top artists.” The annual collectible Splash hardcover book includes page after page of what it describes as “watercolor brilliance,” from artists all over the world.
Splash 21‘s theme is Capturing Mood. My watercolor “Cow’s In The Corn” is one of about 125 paintings which will be featured in the newest edition. The judges chose watercolor paintings “that reflect excellence and originality in capturing mood, as well as a variety of styles and subjects.” I set out to capture “happiness” in my submitted painting, so I guess it fit the bill.
The Splash 21 book will be published in August, 2020, so I’ll have reason to celebrate then too!
Meanwhile, the original of my “Cow’s In The Corn” is now on display in my solo show at Rarity Bay in Vonore, Tennessee, through the end of June. I have giclee prints available too.
