Paying My Dues

Some organizations allow you to join simply by paying your membership fee. For me to become an active member of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA) it wasn’t that simple. To achieve active member status, an artist is required to submit 5 images of their scratchboard artwork, prepared to the organization’s sizing and file naming specifications… along with a fee for the review. A juror analyzes the work, rates it and provides a critique as feedback for the submitting … Read More

It’s Calendar Time Again

My 2020 calendars are printed, with the cover and each month illustrated with a new painting I’ve created within the last year. I’ve been quite prolific and actually could have filled more months. Included are a variety of subjects, including some of my perennial favorites like flowers (wild and cultivated), animals (wild, farm and pets), and a still life with lace. I’ve also featured several of my recent ventures in human portraits. There’s even a fellow everyone should recognize. The … Read More

I’m celebrating a new milestone with my fine art today. I’ve just learned that one of my paintings has been accepted into Splash 21! What is that, you wonder? Outside the world of watercolor, the “Splash Best of Watercolor” book series is probably not well known. But as a watercolor artist, being included in this publication is a major recognition. The Splash series are coffee-table books with stunning reproductions of watercolor paintings. In the words of publisher North Light, which … Read More

My Five Minutes of Fame Is Extended!

A fabulous story about the 2018 Tennessee Watercolor Society Exhibition has just been published in Nashville Arts Magazine. The author quoted curator Terri Jordan of The Customs House Museum in Clarksville TN (about an hour from Nashville), the host site for the Exhibition. Her words about my painting Eat Chicken are so complimentary! Also in the article are lots of comments – specifically about my painting – from the show juror Lian Quan Zhen. I’m so delighted with what was … Read More
