Two of my paintings are currently featured in the Oak Ridge (TN) OPEN SHOW 2019, and I am delighted to also receive my first award for a black scratchboard. Juror Victoria Boone gave critiques to every entry, and here are her comments about my art:
Heart To Heart
“Magnificent detail in cat and dog – especially in the eyes with reflections. This makes this an extremely poignant pet portrait. Just amazing…” She awarded this painting Honorable Mention.
Sorghum Maker
“Beautiful sense of color and composition. The central placement of the figure is balanced well with the linear elements to the right. Executed exceptionally well…”
I was told that I was one of very few artists who got two entries accepted. The Oak Ridge Art Center said the juror “…selected the show she felt was the strongest and discovered she had selected over 40 too many pieces. At that point she struggled to remove those last 40-plus pieces. We see now she removed many of the genre pieces – familiar themes like landscapes, florals, etc., and kept those that really spoke to her about the artist, their ideas and personal perspectives or that simply spoke to her heart. Many fine works went home that she would have liked to exhibit. … That competition is what makes it a great show.”
The Art Center director told me: “On a personal note, “Heart to Heart” is absolutely one of my favorites in the show. I am amazed at your precision with scratch board.”
Such positive feedback goes a long way in encouraging me to do more art!
This is a show of all types of art, with no geographic limitations on entering. It attracts very talented fine artists, and the competition is stiff. I am proud to be included.
The show runs until November 30, 2019, at Oak Ridge Art Center, 201 Badger Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Drop in and vote for your favorite in the Viewer’s Choice Award. Admission is free. For more info, visit the Art Center’s website. Information: 865-482-1441, www.oakridgeartcenter.org
