“I created this painting as an example to use in a presentation about scratchboarding. The original image came from a Scratchbord™ kit, designed for Ampersand Art by master scratchboard artist Sally Maxwell. I created this artwork using the drawing guide from the kit, making the art with my own techniques and tools, not referring to the kit instructions. I believe the original kit design depicts a grey wolf, but I varied this one to the coloring of a red wolf. When this wolf was completed, I did a second Wolf scratchboard directly following the kit instructions, to share the differences as part of my scratchboard presentation.
I like to research the subjects of my art, and learned that red wolves are rare. They are officially on the list of critically endangered species. I believe our world is experiencing more environmental threats than we are aware of, and the consequences of humans on the earth are having a quickly increasingly negative impact. I hope this image celebrates a piece of nature’s beauty, and I will continue to do my small part to minimize my footprint on this planet.”
