"It's been years since I took a photo of my husband Rick fly fishing on the freestone Tellico River, recognized for its trout fishing. It's a gorgeous river and hours spent in the sections which wind through the Cherokee National Forest are relaxing and invigorating. I finally got the urge to depict the scene and chose watercolor as the best medium for this painting.
As with many of my watercolors, I used much more vivid colors than reality. To keep the focal point on the fisherman, I purposely painted the background near the figure so that would be the area of the most contrast. I used cool blues and greens primarily for the distant forest, and warmer tones in the foreground. I loved the whites of the fast-moving water and preserved these as the white paper with masking fluid.
Looking at the finished painting takes me back to that sparkling day, giving me a feeling of serenity."
