ACCOLADES: Beauty of Watermedia Award (3rd place), 2016 Biennial Tennessee Watercolor Society Exhibition
"This is a painting of a special musical friend, Mike, in a casual setting one October evening. Mike had picked up a guitar and started singing, and soon he was accompanied by a friend on harmonica. They sat just outside a barn, lit from a spotlight above. I took a bunch of photos, hoping I might preserve the moment in a painting. The textures were so interesting to paint - the denim jeans, smooth wood face of the guitar, soft jersey fabric, and the rough ground.
The photo below shows the subject of "In The Spotlight," my Nashville friend Mike Rogers, below a banner for the Tennessee Watercolor Society 2016 Biennial Exhibition. Mike is in front of The Custom House Museum in Clarksville, TN, the final host of the exhibit's Traveling Show. I was very proud to have my artwork featured on the banner! Mike was delighted, as was I, with the award this painting won."
