"I began this painting as a workshop project to expand my scratchboarding techniques. Artist Sheryl Unwin shared her stippling technique in a Zoom class, providing the young boy photo for participants to work from. I completed the project and loved the new technique. See my scratchboard "Wee Lad" for my results.
In my efforts to add color to "Wee Lad," disaster struck and I ruined a section of my black and white work. After much contemplation about whether I could fix it (and how to fix it), I decided to solve the problem by concealing the mistake. To reinforce the vintage look of the boy, I introduced a worn baseball mitt and ball, positioning it to cover the part of his face which had been messed up.
My rescue succeeded in preserving the artwork, creating a new painting. I am content to declare the little ball player as a finished painting - and I will not try to alter it again!"
