"These gorgeous Lady Slipper wildflowers blossom in my woods in May. I loved this grouping of three, and captured them with the afternoon sun casting backlighting.
The painting was done on heavy watercolor paper, which I tore into a circle from the original rectangular sheet, creating a deckle edge. The dried leaves of the background were painted with layer upon layer of transparent glazes, using the acrylic paints in a watercolor manner. I wanted to create strong contrast between the flowers and foliage and the background.
I am one of three sisters, and this seemed an appropriate title for these lovely flowers."
