ACCOLADES: This painting was selected as one of 105 winners out of 900 entries to appear in AcrylicWorks 7. This 100+ page special publication features each acrylic painting with the artist's commentary and was published in 2020. This was Judy's first major recognition for an acrylic painting on canvas.
"I was at a gathering with friends and several of the children were playing on the rocky edge of the shallow river. The sunlight was strong and the backlighting on little Aubrey made her platinum hair glow and created fabulous highlights and shadows. I took several photos, knowing there was potential for a painting subject. I don't do 'portraits' but I enjoy the challenge - and it is a challenge for me - of painting human subjects involved in an activity. I call them character studies."
