This second portrait of my rescued cat Jethro illustrates using Scratchbord Inks on a white Claybord™ panel. Each of my nine portraits of Jethro presents a different art medium on a 3.5" x 3.5" Claybord™ Tile, created and manufactured by Ampersand Art Supply. For this painting I made the Claybord into a black surface, very much like Ampersand's Scratchbord™. I did this by applying two coats of "Repair Black," which is included as one of the inks in the set of Scratchbord/Claybord Inks by Ampersand. These inks are water soluable, mix well into a huge range of colors, and dry water-resistant. They also are specially formulated to leave no residue over the black surface of Scratchbord™ (or my clone of a black Scratchbord as in this painting), as other inks tend to do. As I've done so often on the Ampersand panels I love - Claybord, Aquabord, and Scratchbord - I used scratching techniques to depict the fine fur, thick whiskers, and mesmerizing eyes of Jethro.

Claybord Art Tiles are the same white kaolin clay-coated, ultra smooth, highly absorbent surface as original Claybord but in unique small sizes. This surface and size is amazingly versatile, for a variety of painting applications, jewelry making, collage, coasters, magnets, ornaments, scrapbooking, embellishments, and much more! I love Claybord for the unlimited techniques is allows: painting, drawing, etching, erasing, reworking, glueing, stamping, inking, transfering images, applying skins and more!
