"Dylan's 1962 song title inspired me to create a landscape where a strong wind was suggested. I decided on an old farm, a familiar site where I live, and combined several of my own reference photos to create this scene. I started the painting with the juicy sky, hinting at an approaching storm. The old farmhouse on the hill is from a photo of the home just past our driveway. I added the clothesline with laundry as one of my windy elements and an old barn to balance the composition. Wind can make livestock very active, so I decided two moving horses would be fitting. The reference for these horses came from photos I took at a pasture at a fancy gated community long ago, although I changed the color of their hair, with the tails and manes are blowing. The grass and weedy growth in the foreground move with the gusts coming from the left. Faraway birds, fluttering and gliding in the sky, were a fun little addition. Hold onto your hat!"
