"A sunflower which germinated under the bird feeders on our front porch inspired this little painting. I loved the appearance of the singular blossom, brightly lit by the morning sun. The fine hairs on the leaves and stem influenced my decision to do this painting on Aquabord™, a surface which would allow me to scratch into the white layer with a sharp point to create the thin lines.
I used the dark background to further emphasize the downy hairs as well as the bright colors of the flower and greenery. My watercolors for this project were QoR® watercolors, made by Golden Paints, the company whose fluid acrylics I have used for many years. I had never used this product before, but I loved how they performed here and definitely will used them again."
