"Photos of my great niece Olivia blowing bubbles challenged my artistic nature to depict the scene in a painting. I've previously posted a small practice version of this same scene, called "Magical," which I've given to Olivia as a gift. I liked it enough to try this much larger version, done on a full 22" x 30" sheet of watercolor paper.
I actually did not refer back to the little practice painting while working on the new one. Comparing them now, you will see many similarities along with a few changes. I cropped the image closer to Olivia's face, making her larger than life, and included more of her jacket in this newer version, accommodating a vertical format. The bubbles are fewer and more colorful, and the background is more defined. I also used color more boldly on Olivia's skin tones than in the little painting."
