"When I first showed my painting "Rusty Hinge" to friends, I heard several times 'I love the queen anne's lace!' so I decided another painting was in order. My inspiration came quickly... this old fence post and barbed wire surround our neighbor's horse pasture, and the queen anne's lace flowers bloom profusely in the summer. Since I've been in Tennessee, I've learned that this lovely flower is best left untouched - it's better know as "chigger weed" because of the nasty biting bugs who gather on the underside. But it made for a fun subject to paint, anyway. I struggled to reproduce the appearance of the twisted barbed wire, and learned that getting the twisted look is all in the highlights and shadows."
