I’m Doing A Happy Dance!

"Baby Boomer" watercolor on Aquabord © Judy Lavoie 2021

I've just learned that my watercolor painting on Aquabord™ "Baby Boomer" has been awarded the 2nd Place "Award of Excellence" in the Tennessee Watercolor Society's 2023 Online Exhibition. In chosing the show and award winners, Juror Mary Ann Beckwith said “It is a wonderful collection of paintings executed with creativity and skill exemplifying the many competent watercolorists of the TnWS. I selected paintings with strong content, design, and beauty, drawing my attention and keeping it. It was difficult to pare the selections down to only 40.” You can view the artwork online at https://tnws.org/exhibitions/2023-online-exhibition/ NOTE: You can see this painting in person at the annual Art Guild of Tellico Village's ART SHOW, this coming weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday April 28-30, 2023. Get those details here and come find me during every day of the show.

My scratchboards continue to draw attention too. "I Will Twine" won "Juror's Citation" award after being selected for the 2023 "No Bigger Than A Breadbox" juried show in Knoxville TN, one of 80 chosen from 378 entries. That exhibit ends Aprils 29, 2023, but you can still view it online at https://www.knoxalliance.store/product-category/breadbox/

But wait, there's more! "Perfectionist," a scratchboard which has also previously won me honors, has been selected for the current biannual Arts In The Airport exhibition at McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville TN. The competition gets tougher ever time: only 44 were chosen by Juror Claudio Gómez from 706 entries of all media categories, submitted by 180 artists. This is the fifth painting I have had chosen for these Airport shows. The current exhibit will hang until mid October, and can be viewed online at https://www.knoxalliance.store/product-category/airport/

I am humbled and honored with these awards, as you will understand if you look at the other fabulous works in each show. I've been entering and getting accepted into art shows for decades, but it is always motivating to be recognized in this way. It never gets old to be reminded that not only can an artist get immense joy following his or her passion, but those creations can touch others in special ways too.
