"Bella is a beloved companion to my special friend Krisztina. She was a stray cat who showed up at the door and the attachment was instantly mutual. Within a year Bella was found to have serious health issues and Krisztina and her husband Bill vowed to try whatever was necessary to bring her back to good health. With surgery and series of treatments Bella is doing well and rewarding her owners with all her love.
White or dark fur is a challenge to capture in a drawing or painting. Highlights and shadows are key to creating a realistic 3-dimensional appearance and capturing the texture of the fur. I chose a photo taken by Krisztina which focused on Bella’s face, emphasizing the eyes which are so captivating with a cat. Technically, I painted a lot of color where the fur would eventually look white, knowing my scratches would reveal the bright white of the Claybord surface. Bella’s pink ears and nose were fun to paint.
Krisztina said ‘When I look at it, I see Bella’s eyes looking back at me. You truly did a magnificent job with it.’” I couldn’t hope for more."
