"Years ago my husband Rick surprised me with a May visit to the University of Tennessee Gardens in Knoxville TN... a treaure he had scouted out for me, knowing my love of gardens, and just one hour from home. Acres of beauty, including lovely walkways through the mature trees, a waterfall surrounded by roses, and an amazing garden of bearded irises in full bloom when we were there. A big surprise was this old Chevy truck, with the bed used as a planter of colorful flowers. The old gas pump was an interesting touch, and I took many photos. We've been back to visit a few times over the years.
The rusted body, broken window, flattened tires and leaves growing out of the front grill made this trunk a perfect subject for another in my series of old vehicles as mini whiskey paintings. I used artistic license and added a variety of blooming colors in the truck bed and decorated the foreground with old tubs of more flowers. I left the background simple, suggesting the shaded areas beyond."
This Whiskey Painting was created with watercolors diluted with Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Sour Mash Tennessee Whiskey.
