"This mini whiskey painting is part of my series of old vehicles. I love the textures and colors of old paint, rust, chrome and other details on decades-old vehicles. Many have appeared in my artwork over the years. In the rural countryside around my home I often drive past one of these visual gems and can't stop myself from stopping for photos. The same was true with this old Ford tractor, photographed years ago in a field at a farm where I used to stop to buy freshly picked apples from their orchards, and now my choice as a reference for a new painting.
The white clay surface of Claybord™ makes my watercolors brilliant and allows me to capture fabulous textures of my subjects. I don't know much about the mechanics of a tractor, but tried to suggest the mass of components under the rusted frame. Detached parts, dirt, old lights and the wear and tear of years of use are what I most love to capture."
