"This is the fourth of five Whiskey Paintings in my “Red Barn” series. Each is painted in watercolors, diluted with alcohol spirits in the water. I chose Jack Daniel Old No. 7 Sour Mash Tennessee Whiskey, since it is distilled in my home state. I love old barns and have a huge reference photo file of barns in my area. Not all are red, but I could use artistic license on those just weathered to grey. The exhibit will be on display over July 4th, our nation’s 250th birthday, so I added a barn quilt in red, white and blue to each barn I painted. I titled each painting to reflect my patriotic theme.

I chose this big old barn from my reference photos because I liked the viewpoint, rusty roof, and the door shapes on the front. I depicted it as early morning, with a colorful sunrise. The old cedar fence has been strengthened with some steel posts, as is common in my area. I added the horse from another reference photo in my files, to balance the building. Touches of summer are suggested in the foreground flowers."

This Whiskey Painting was created with watercolors diluted with Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Sour Mash Tennessee Whiskey.
