I'm pleased to announce that my painting "Baby Boomer" is now showing in the 17th annual National Juried Exhibition in Knoxville TN. Presented by the Arts & Culture Alliance, the exhibition features works from 46 artists throughout the region, selected by juror Julie Jack of Tennessee Wesleyan University from 432 entries. The exhibition encompasses all styles and genres from emerging and established artists working in a variety of media such as wood, photography, oil, glass, fiber, paper and more.
“Baby Boomer,” which I painted on a 30" x 22" Aquabord panel with transparent watercolors, captures the rust, worn paint, and missing parts on the rear of an old 1961 Studebaker Lark. I was inspired to capture this scene by the interesting textures and colors. I especially love that the broken and missing insignia could still be read; there’s a special connection with Knoxville, as the car was originally purchased from a dealership there. When I learned that a Studebaker was featured on an old episode of Mr. Ed, which I was probably watching as a kid, the title “Baby Boomer” became the obvious choice.
The Exhibition runs through February 25, 2023, at the Emporium Center at 100 S Gay Street in Knoxville. The juror commented on the chosen artworks: “The artist's relationship to the work seemed to have an ominous scale in their observation of the natural and artificial world. Although the selections reveal themes of evanescence, the exhibition displays artwork that undeniably draws you in and keeps you there.”
